35 Bar / ~500 PSI Portable Air

7 min read1 sections

Define what the proposed air supply must demonstrate before it reaches the job.

A 35 bar portable-air enquiry needs a clear path from the requested duty to the equipment offered and the evidence accepted. A pressure category helps identify potential machines. It cannot, by itself, establish their delivery, the suitability of the complete supply arrangement or the result at the receiving equipment.

The “~500 PSI” description in this title is approximate. On the same pressure basis, 35 bar is approximately 507.63 psi; 500 psi is approximately 34.47 bar. Where a specification requires an exact minimum or sets a maximum, preserve that value rather than replacing it with the category label.

Reddy Compressors considers 35 bar portable-air requirements subject to supplier confirmation. This page explains how to turn an initial enquiry into a reviewable supply proposal, with particular attention to what the evidence actually demonstrates.

Begin with the acceptance question

Before asking which machine is available, identify what the receiving operation needs to have confirmed. That question should be specific enough for a supplier and the customer's technical reviewer to answer against the same requirement.

For example, is the enquiry seeking a compressor with a published 35 bar working capability, or a complete temporary-air arrangement delivering a stated flow at a defined point? Those requests require different supporting information.

Record the required pressure, airflow, air quality, operating pattern and delivery location. Identify whether pressure is gauge or absolute and retain the flow reference conditions. Also state which organisation owns the receiving equipment's requirements.

An acceptance question might read:

What evidence will establish that the identified supply arrangement meets the agreed pressure, flow and quality requirements at the specified delivery point under the stated operating conditions?

This is a procurement aid. The competent parties responsible for the equipment and application must determine the technical criteria and any verification work.

Keep four kinds of evidence separate

Different records answer different questions. A useful proposal makes those distinctions visible instead of treating every document as proof of complete application suitability.

What still needs resolution

Manufacturer performance information

What duty is published for this configuration?

Applicability to the offered unit and project conditions

Offered-unit identification

Which machine and fitted equipment will be supplied?

Whether that configuration meets the agreed duty

Complete supply review

How are the compressor, treatment and connections assessed together?

Responsibility for the receiving application and any exclusions

Agreed verification record

What was demonstrated, where and under which conditions?

Whether those conditions cover the intended work

Keep each record attached to the proposal it supports. A general brochure may help shortlist a product, while a later equipment-specific response establishes the proposed configuration. Neither should silently acquire a broader meaning during commercial approval.

A published 35 bar reference—and its limits

One manufacturer's regional portable-compressor table lists a model with a 22–35 bar working range and 34.8 m³/min at maximum pressure. The same table separately identifies 38.88 m³/min in a flow-boost mode at minimum pressure.

Those entries describe different operating conditions. The larger figure is not evidence of that flow at 35 bar. Retain the table's labels when assessing the reference and request the applicable performance documentation for the offered machine.

The regional table does not explicitly suffix its pressure entries as gauge or absolute. That basis needs confirmation before comparison with an application requirement. The example establishes a published reference, not available stock, an approved supply package or guaranteed output at a customer's site.

The selection decision should use the supported duty relevant to the work. A feature name or the largest number in a product family does not replace that evidence.

Decide what a demonstration would need to establish

Agree the purpose of any proposed demonstration before arranging it. A presentation of the controls, a condition inspection and a performance assessment are different activities. Make the expected result explicit so the parties do not leave with different understandings of what has been accepted.

For a performance assessment, the responsible technical parties should determine the method, measurement locations, instruments, applicable conditions and acceptance criteria. They should also decide how limitations or measurement uncertainty affect the conclusion.

This page does not prescribe a test pressure, test duration, connection arrangement or operating sequence. Those decisions belong to the applicable equipment instructions and an appropriately reviewed procedure.

From a purchasing perspective, request a record that can be understood afterwards: equipment identity, assessed configuration, agreed duty, relevant conditions, observations and the conclusion reached by the responsible reviewer. A record without its context can be difficult to use when equipment or site arrangements change.

An illustrative evidence review

Consider a hypothetical enquiry for a complete supply with specified airflow at 35 bar(g) at an agreed delivery point. The supplier provides a catalogue, a photograph showing a pressure indication and a proposed accessory list.

The catalogue may identify a potentially suitable model. The photograph, by itself, does not establish the stated airflow, duration, delivery location or conditions of the observation. The accessory list identifies proposed items, but does not necessarily contain their applicable ratings or a review of the assembled arrangement.

The useful response is to identify the unresolved questions:

  • Which offered configuration does the performance evidence cover?
  • Is pressure-specific delivery supported on the same flow reference basis as the requirement?
  • Does the evidence apply at the agreed boundary and relevant project conditions?
  • Who has assessed the complete arrangement and receiving-equipment requirements?
  • What further evidence, if any, is needed before acceptance?

Nothing in this example establishes that the offered equipment fails. It establishes that the supplied records do not yet answer the full acceptance question. That distinction allows the enquiry to progress without assuming either suitability or deficiency.

Make the delivery boundary visible

Identify the point at which the supplier's performance commitment applies. If treatment and connecting equipment are included, clarify whether the commitment covers their effect on the delivered air and whether the stated flow is gross compressor delivery or the agreed usable supply.

Where the customer provides part of the arrangement, name those items in the scope. A review cannot account for an unspecified hose route, unidentified treatment equipment or an unknown receiving connection merely because a compressor has been selected.

The parties should agree how any missing information will be resolved. The customer may need to provide application documents, while the equipment provider supplies configuration-specific performance and operating limits. The person reviewing the combined arrangement needs access to both.

This boundary should also appear in the commercial proposal. Otherwise, two offers can appear equivalent while committing to different delivery points or supplying different equipment.

Preserve the accepted configuration through mobilisation

An equipment change can reopen an earlier assessment. If the supplier proposes a replacement machine, ask which accepted evidence continues to apply and which entries need revision. A shared pressure category does not establish identical delivery or fitted options.

Use the same approach when treatment, connections or the receiving duty change. Keep the accepted configuration identifiable, including customer-provided components relevant to the assessment.

A concise change record should state what changed, why it changed, who reviewed the effect and whether any further confirmation is outstanding. This gives the site and purchasing teams a common reference without requiring them to reconstruct every earlier conversation.

The objective is continuity between the proposal and the equipment actually supplied. It is especially useful when mobilisation is coordinated across several organisations or the final unit is confirmed late in the enquiry.

Review deployment alongside performance

The proposed machine also needs an appropriate deployment plan. Request the applicable transport and handling information, site-access requirements and operating instructions for the actual configuration. Confirm the intended operating periods and responsibilities for fuel, routine attention and support.

Keep unresolved deployment issues visible beside unresolved technical questions. A confirmed catalogue duty does not establish transport access or a supplier's availability on the required dates.

For time-sensitive projects, ask which commitments can be confirmed and what remains conditional. Emergency coordination should be based on the actual circumstances and equipment availability. A response-time promise should not be inferred from the pressure category or the scale of the enquiry.

Frequently asked questions

Does “~500 PSI” mean exactly 35 bar?

No. The approximation helps describe the category. Use the original specified value and its pressure basis for equipment assessment; a rounded label does not create an operating tolerance.

Does reaching a pressure reading prove the required air supply?

A pressure reading alone does not document the complete duty. The relevant flow, measurement point, operating conditions and assessment method must also be established where they form part of acceptance.

Can the maximum flow and maximum pressure be selected independently?

Only supported pressure-specific performance can establish their combination. Keep special operating modes and their conditions attached to the figures they qualify.

Must every enquiry include a site performance test?

This page sets no universal testing requirement. The responsible parties should determine what evidence is appropriate to the project, the contractual requirement and the equipment being supplied.

What information will move a quotation forward?

Provide the receiving-equipment requirements, requested duty and boundary, location, operating schedule and required dates. Include the proposed acceptance criteria where these already exist, plus any customer-owned equipment that forms part of the air supply.
