BH17 DTH Lubrication and Air Treatment Interfaces
An air-treatment request for a drilling package must account for the compressor, the hammer and any downstream lubrication or injection equipment. “Cleaner air” is not a complete specification, and an air-treatment component should not be inserted without reviewing its effect on the documented system.
Distinguish the fluids and their purposes
Keep compressor lubricant, hammer lubricant and deliberately injected media separate in the records. Identify each product by its approved specification and intended location. A compressor’s lubrication system does not, by itself, establish that the downhole hammer receives the lubrication required by its manufacturer.
Ask for the exact hammer manual and configuration. OEM catalogues distinguish hammer variants, so maintenance and operating instructions must match the assembly in use. This page does not prescribe a universal oil grade, lubricant rate or injection quantity.
Define the air-treatment requirement
Explain the problem being addressed: a specified downstream requirement, a documented moisture issue, a component-protection need or a project requirement. State the required operating pressure, flow basis and environmental conditions. Request equipment-specific data for the proposed aftercooler, separator, filter or other component.
The reviewer should identify the intended sequence of treatment and lubrication, supported capacities, pressure effects and maintenance requirements. Collecting separately rated components does not establish that the combined arrangement meets the application.
Keep changes traceable
Before changing a lubricant, filter or injection arrangement, retain the previous specification and the reason for the proposed change. Obtain approval from the responsible equipment specialist. Record the actual product used and any relevant batch or service information so a later investigation can identify what changed.
Where media may enter a water well, the drilling and water-quality specialists must review the intended materials and procedures. A product sold for an industrial application is not automatically acceptable for every well use.
Maintenance and enquiry information
Describe the current arrangement from compressor to rig, including treatment equipment and lubrication points. Provide component identities, service history and the observed issue. Photographs are useful when accompanied by labels explaining the flow direction and each component’s purpose.
For a parts request, use exact references wherever possible. If the identification is uncertain, request confirmation before ordering an alternative. An apparently interchangeable consumable can still have a different specification.
Discuss the arrangement: send the air-path sketch and relevant manuals through the project enquiry brief. Use Spare Parts for purchasing and Service and Repairs for a machine-specific investigation.
