The region from a compressed-air point of view
Three kinds of compressed air meet in the Godavari districts. The first is industrial and port air: the contractors who serve the port, the SEZ, the gas-processing and oil-support installations, the fertiliser and edible-oil plants and the fabrication yards need plant air for tools, blasting and painting, instrument-quality air for shutdowns and tie-ins, and nitrogen-generation feed air for purging and blanketing. The second is process air for food: edible-oil refineries, rice mills, the aquaculture and seafood processors of Bhimavaram, Amalapuram and the delta, coconut and fruit processors, and sugar and distillery units around Samalkot and Tanuku, all of which need dry, oil-free or well-filtered air for packing, sorting and pneumatic valves. The third is the air of the coast itself: salt, humidity and cyclone weather, which decides how long a cooler, a cabinet and a receiver last.

Salt, humidity and cyclones: specifying for the Kakinada coast
The Kakinada and Konaseema coast is low, humid and exposed. Salt air corrodes aluminium coolers, copper windings and steel receivers; humidity loads every dryer for most of the year; and the October-to-December cyclone season brings wind-driven rain and flooding to low-lying sites. We specify for this from the start: coated or corrosion-resistant coolers cleaned on an inspection calendar, sealed and filtered electrical cabinets, internally coated receivers, intakes on the landward side, dryers sized for a 40 to 45 °C inlet with the coastal humidity allowed for, electronic drains, and compressor rooms raised above flood level with power isolation that can be reached when the floor is wet. The notes on the Visakhapatnam page about coastal specification apply here in full.
Port, SEZ, gas and oil support
The port, the SEZ and the gas and oil installations have their own engineering; our customers are the contractors who build, maintain and service them. Fabrication yards making structures, skids and pipework need plant air for tools, blasting cabinets and paint booths, and dry air for blasting and painting so that coatings pass inspection. Shutdown and tie-in contractors need portable air, often to instrument quality, for pneumatic testing, purging and tools, commissioned against the installation’s air-quality requirement and the acceptance checklist. Nitrogen generation for purging and blanketing needs feed-air compressors sized for the generator’s feed ratio, and the nitrogen feed-air page explains the arithmetic. For blasting the figure is nozzle size and pressure at the nozzle, and the abrasive blasting air tool gives it. Permit, safety and hazardous-area requirements at these installations are followed, and the hazardous-area compressor page sets out what we need to know before quoting.
Edible oil, fertiliser, sugar and distilleries
The edible-oil refineries and the fertiliser and chemical plants of the region run instrument air and plant air to written standards and usually have their own compressed-air plants; we are asked for standby and rental sets during outages and expansions, specified with dryers and filtration to the plant’s standard, for audits of instrument-air quality, and for service of the smaller compressors in workshops and ancillary buildings. Sugar factories and distilleries around Samalkot and Tanuku need instrument air with a desiccant dryer and plant air for the season, and a hired standby through the crushing season is a common arrangement.
Aquaculture, seafood, rice and coconut
The Godavari delta is the largest aquaculture belt in the country, and its hatcheries and processing plants use compressed air for aeration in some systems, for packing, for pneumatic valves and for plant cleaning, in a wet, salty, cold-room environment where air must be dry and oil-free at the point of product contact. Rice mills across the delta run colour sorters that need stable, dry, clean air; coconut processors and fruit-pulp units need clean air for pneumatic equipment and packing. For all of them the dryer, the filtration, the drains and the room placement decide the result, and we design them with the compressor. The food-grade air page explains the air-quality classes, and the rice-mill notes on the Nizamabad page apply to the delta’s mills.
Key facts for a Kakinada-region site
- Distance: about 480 km from Tarnaka to Kakinada, 410 km to Rajahmundry and 400 km to Bhimavaram; a rental delivery is a full day each way; service visits are planned trips grouped with other Godavari work.
- Climate: hot and humid; summer highs around 37 °C with very high humidity, a long monsoon, and a cyclone season from October to December. Humidity and salt are the design conditions.
- Atmosphere: salt air on the coast, husk dust at mills, wet and cold at seafood plants, hazardous-area requirements at gas and oil installations.
- Power: industrial supply at the port and SEZ is good; delta feeders interrupt and flood-season outages happen.
- What we do here: sales of new machines through our supply tie-ups, inspected used and refurbished machines from our Secunderabad yard, rental from our own fleet by the month, service and repair of all makes, maintenance contracts with records, overhauls in Secunderabad, spares, dryers and filters.
Sales: new, used and refurbished for the Godavari coast
We specify for the coast from the start, and for food and pharma plants we specify against a written air-quality standard; the selection guide explains the method. We have supply tie-ups with all major makes, we are not the authorised dealer of any, and the comparison between makes for a coastal site includes how each is built for salt and humidity. For a workshop, a mill or a contractor, an inspected used or refurbished machine from our yard, load-tested with a six-month warranty and its test sheet, with a new dryer and the cooler and cabinet checked for the coast, is often the right value; the used compressors page sets out what is inspected.
Rental in the Godavari districts
Rental here is by the month, because the delivery is a day each way. Our fleet supplies portable diesel compressors for blasting, painting, construction and shutdown work, with aftercoolers, separators and dryers specified against the coating or process requirement, and skid-mounted electric screw compressors, with dryers and filtration, as standby or supplementary air for plants, mills and processors through their seasons. Machines arrive with hoses and a commissioning check, and fuel for a diesel machine is the hirer’s. The own-or-hire calculator lets a contractor run the decision with their own figures.
Service, repair and maintenance contracts
| Situation | What we need first | What then happens |
|---|---|---|
| Plant air out of specification | Compressor, dryer and filter nameplates, the specification, recent results | A service engineer with instruments tests dew point and oil content on site; the fix is in the dryer, filters, drains or a salt-coated condenser |
| Compressor tripping or corroding on the coast | Nameplate, controller display, photographs of the cooler, cabinet and canopy | Telephone diagnosis, then a visit with cooler-cleaning equipment, the likely sensor or valve, and coastal-specification replacements |
| Seafood plant: wet or oily air | Compressor and dryer nameplates, filtration, drain condition, room location | Dryer, filtration and drains checked with the compressor; often a room-placement and drain answer |
| Overhaul or airend exchange | Hours, noise and vibration history, oil analysis if available | The airend goes to our Secunderabad workshop; a rental machine covers the plant |
| Maintenance contract | Machine list with nameplates, hours, criticality, season and audit dates | A visit calendar from hours, grouped with other Godavari work; consumables carried; dryers, drains, coolers and cabinets inspected; records kept |
At this distance a maintenance contract is the normal way of working for a plant; the AMC page explains the structure.
Spare parts to the region
Intake and cabinet filters, separator elements, oil (including food-grade), belts, inlet and minimum-pressure valves, thermostatic elements, dryer filters and desiccant, drain valves, cooler cores in coastal specification and controller sensors are what the region consumes, and the coast consumes coolers and drains fast. Parts travel ahead by road or courier, or with the service engineer for planned work. We identify a part from the nameplate and a photograph of the component, not from the canopy name; the spare parts page explains what to photograph.
A worked example: a seafood processing plant near Bhimavaram
A shrimp processing plant asks for compressed air for pneumatic valves and cylinders on grading and packing lines, for the vacuum-packing machines’ pneumatics, and for plant cleaning, with air that must not contaminate product. The equipment list gives an average demand of about 2.4 m³/min with peaks near 4 m³/min during packing, at 7 bar(g). The answer is a 22 kW food-grade lubricated screw compressor with a coalescing and sterile filtration chain at the points of product contact, a 1,500-litre internally coated receiver, a refrigerated dryer sized for a 45 °C inlet at the coastal humidity, timed drains, and a compressor room on the dry side of the building, raised above the cleaning floor, with its intake on the landward side and heavier filtration. The electrical cabinet is sealed and filtered against salt; the cooler is cleaned at each contract visit; and the plant holds filters, a drain valve and a thermostatic element on site because the drive from Secunderabad is a day. The air at the packing machines is tested for oil and dew point at commissioning and recorded on the acceptance sheet.
Common mistakes in the Godavari districts
- Installing an inland-specification compressor beside the coast and losing the cooler, cabinet and receiver to salt within a year.
- Putting a seafood plant’s compressor on the wet processing floor.
- Sizing a dryer from the nominal flow without the coastal humidity and inlet temperature.
- Draining receivers by hand in a humid climate.
- Specifying “oil-free” or “instrument air” for a plant without stating the class, dew point and test method.
- Ordering a part by the canopy name rather than the number on the component.
How Reddy Compressors helps
The Godavari districts are among the farther places we serve, and the port, process and aquaculture work there has shaped how we specify, hire and maintain for a coast. We are an independent, multi-brand business with supply tie-ups across all major makes, our own rental fleet, our own yard of inspected used machines, a workshop for airend and engine work, and more than 20 service engineers and technicians, all working from Tarnaka in Secunderabad.
What to send us
- A photograph of the compressor, dryer and filter nameplates and, for a fault, the controller display and the cooler.
- Where the site is: the port area, the SEZ plot, the plant, the hatchery or the landmark.
- For a plant: the air-quality specification and the list of air users with hours.
- For a contractor: the tools, nozzle sizes, hose lengths and the coating or process requirement, and any hazardous-area classification.
- For rental: the duty, pressure, flow, air quality, period, and whether the site has three-phase power.

Short explainers on this topic
Slide-by-slide engineering explainers from Reddy Compressors. More in the video library.
Can you supply compressed air for shutdown and tie-in work at gas and oil installations?
Yes, portable sets with dryers and filtration specified against the installation’s air-quality requirement, commissioned on site, and following the installation’s permit, safety and hazardous-area rules. Send the scope and the classification.
Do you size feed-air compressors for nitrogen generators?
Yes. The generator’s feed ratio, purity and flow set the compressor and dryer; send the generator’s data.
Can you supply food-grade air for a seafood or edible-oil plant?
Yes. Food-grade lubricated or oil-free compressors with coalescing and sterile filtration, dryers sized for the coast and coated receivers, commissioned with an oil and dew-point test recorded.
Do you rent compressors for blasting and painting at fabrication yards?
Yes, with aftercoolers, separators and dryers specified against the coating requirement, delivered by road, commissioned on site and hired by the month. Fuel is the hirer’s.
Can you service a compressor of a make you did not supply?
Yes. We service and repair every major make of compressor and dryer and supply parts for them. Send the nameplates.
How do you handle a breakdown 480 km away?
