Why Nalgonda is a different district for compressed air
The cement belt along the Krishna between Miryalaguda, Wadapally, Huzurnagar and Mellacheruvu is heavy industry: limestone quarries, crushers, kilns, grinding mills and packing plants, plus the fleet of contractors who maintain, build and haul for them. Plant air and instrument air inside the cement plants is usually in place under the plant’s own arrangements; the contractors, the quarries, the ready-mix and precast yards and the workshops around them are our customers. Miryalaguda is one of the largest rice-milling centres in the country, with hundreds of mills whose colour sorters and bagging lines run on compressed air. Nalgonda’s uplands are hard rock where borewells go deep, often beyond 600 feet, and the rigs that drill them need compressors with pressure to spare. Around all of it is construction: roads, irrigation works, the Yadadri temple town’s hotels and hospitals, and the industrial growth along the Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway.

The cement and limestone belt
Limestone quarrying for cement is blast-hole drilling on a large scale, with wagon drills and DTH hammers at 7 to 25 bar g, and the quarry contractor’s portable diesel compressor works in white dust, open sun and long shifts. The crushers, conveyors and packing plants around the kiln use plant air for cleaning, pneumatic valves and bag filters, and the contractors who maintain them need portable air for shutdown work: blasting, painting, pneumatic tools and hydro-testing. Limestone dust is alkaline and fine; it coats coolers and blocks intake filters, and it gets into controller cabinets. We specify intake filtration a grade heavier than the manual, place intakes away from haul roads, fit cabinet filters, and set cleaning intervals from inspection. For shutdown work inside a plant, the rental machine, dryer and filtration are specified against the plant’s air-quality requirement and commissioned on site against the acceptance checklist.
Miryalaguda rice mills
A Miryalaguda mill’s colour sorters, bagging lines and pneumatic gates share one requirement: dry, clean air at a stable pressure. Husk dust at the intake, water in the lines in the monsoon and an undersized receiver are the three faults we attend most, and the fixes are a protected intake, a refrigerated dryer sized for a 45 °C inlet with working drains, and a receiver sized for the ejector pulses with a dedicated branch to each sorter. Most mills fall between 15 and 37 kW; the difficult part is the dryer, filters and drains, and we treat them as part of the supply. The dryer selection notes apply directly. The milling season is predictable, and a service scheduled in the weeks before it, with a hired standby machine for mills that cannot stop, is the arrangement that prevents most monsoon calls.
Deep borewells in hard rock
Nalgonda’s uplands are drilled deep. A rig that comfortably reaches 300 feet elsewhere is asked for 600, 800 and more here, and the compressor’s rated pressure must be chosen for the water column it will lift at the bottom of the hole, not for the rig’s nameplate. At 800 feet with a substantial water column the hammer needs well over 20 bar g at its inlet, and a compressor with a booster is often the right rig for the district. The DTH drilling guide and the booster-assisted drilling page set out the arithmetic. The May heat derates engine and airend both, and the red-soil dust of the uplands fills intake filters quickly. We service rig compressors and boosters of every make, supply the spares that rigs consume, and supply new and inspected used rig compressors with their test sheets.
Key facts for a Nalgonda site
- Distance: about 100 km from Tarnaka to Nalgonda town; Miryalaguda about 150 km; Choutuppal and Bhongir within an hour. Most visits are day trips with time on site.
- Climate: hot; May highs around 43 °C and a long dry season; the south-west monsoon from June brings humid air into mills and lines.
- Dust: limestone dust in the cement belt, husk dust around mills, red-soil dust at rig sites; each needs its own filtration and interval.
- Water: deep bores and deep water columns; drilling compressors need pressure margin, and boosters are common.
- What we do here: sales of new machines through our supply tie-ups, inspected used and refurbished machines from our Secunderabad yard, rental from our own fleet, service and repair of all makes, maintenance contracts, overhauls, spares, dryers and filters.
Sales: New, used and refurbished
A quarry contractor buying a 20 m³/min drilling compressor, a driller choosing between a high-pressure machine and a compressor-plus-booster rig, a mill replacing a worn piston machine with a screw compressor and a proper dryer, a precast yard setting up plant air: each is sized from the job. We have supply tie-ups with all major makes, we are not the authorised dealer of any, and we recommend from the duty and the environment; for rigs and quarry machines the comparison is on pressure margin and specific fuel consumption, for mills and yards on air quality and running cost. The selection guide explains the method, and the used compressors page sets out what an inspected, load-tested refurbished machine from our yard comes with: a test sheet and a six-month warranty.
Rental in Nalgonda
Nalgonda’s closeness to Secunderabad makes rental more flexible than in the far districts: shorter hires are practical, and a machine can be swapped or supplemented at short notice, planned with you. Our fleet supplies portable diesel compressors for quarry, drilling, construction and shutdown work, and skid-mounted electric screw compressors to cover a mill or yard during an overhaul or through the season. Machines arrive with hoses and a commissioning check; fuel for a diesel machine is the hirer’s. The own-or-hire calculator lets a contractor run the decision with their own hours and fuel figures.
Service, repair and maintenance contracts
| Situation | What we need first | What then happens |
|---|---|---|
| Quarry or rig compressor losing pressure or overheating | Nameplate, hours, gauge readings under load, hammer, hole depth and water level | A service engineer with filters, valves and instruments to test under load on site |
| Mill sorter misfiring or wet air | Compressor and dryer nameplates, drain condition, receiver condition | Dryer, drains and filtration checked with the compressor; usually a drain or dryer fix |
| Workshop or yard compressor fault | Nameplate, controller display or fault code, last service date | Telephone diagnosis, then a visit with the parts the symptom points to |
| Overhaul, airend or booster rebuild | Hours, noise and vibration history, oil analysis if available | The unit goes to our Secunderabad workshop; a rental or loan machine covers the site |
| Maintenance contract | Machine list with nameplates, hours, criticality, season dates | A visit calendar from hours and seasons, consumables carried, dryers and drains included |
Because the district is a day’s round trip, a contract here can include follow-up visits as well as the scheduled ones; the AMC page explains the structure.
Spare parts to Nalgonda
Intake filters, separator elements, oil, belts, inlet and minimum-pressure valves, thermostatic elements, drain valves, hammer and hose fittings and controller sensors are what the district consumes, and limestone and husk dust shorten the filter intervals. Parts travel with the service engineer for planned work or by road for a customer’s own fitter. We identify parts from the nameplate and a photograph of the component, not from the canopy name; the spare parts page explains what to photograph.
A worked example: A rig for 800-Foot bores near Devarakonda
A driller working the Devarakonda uplands with a 6.5 inch DTH hammer on a 25 bar g, 24 m³/min compressor finds the hammer slowing and stalling below about 550 feet when the hole is making water. The hammer’s maker specifies about 20 bar g at the hammer for the hole size. At 800 feet with a water column that can stand 400 feet in the annulus, the back-pressure from the column alone is about 12 bar, so the compressor’s 25 bar g leaves barely enough at the hammer once line and hammer losses are counted, and nothing in reserve in May heat. The answer is not a larger compressor of the same pressure class but a booster taking the 25 bar supply to 35 bar g or more for the deep sections, with the compressor’s flow confirmed adequate for the annular velocity needed to lift cuttings and water from a 6.5 inch hole. We supply and service boosters of every make and size the pair for the district’s depths; the annular velocity tool gives the flow check.
Common mistakes at Nalgonda sites
- Buying a rig compressor by its nameplate pressure without counting the water column the hole will make.
- Running a high-pressure machine throttled down for jackhammer work all day instead of keeping a 7 bar machine for it.
- Fitting standard intake filters in the limestone belt and blaming the compressor when they block in weeks.
- Running mill sorters on undried air and replacing ejector valves every season.
- Sizing a dryer from the compressor’s nominal flow rather than the summer inlet temperature.
- Ordering a part by the canopy name rather than the number on the component.
How Reddy Compressors helps
Nalgonda is one of the districts we know best: it is a day’s round trip, the cement belt and the Miryalaguda mills are regular customers, and the district’s deep bores shaped much of what we know about boosters. We are an independent, multi-brand business with supply tie-ups across all major makes, our own rental fleet, our own yard of inspected used machines, a workshop for airend, engine and booster work, and more than 20 service engineers and technicians, all working from Tarnaka in Secunderabad.
What to send us
- A photograph of the compressor nameplate and, for a fault, the gauges or controller under load.
- Where the site is: the quarry, mill, yard or village and the nearest landmark.
- For a rig: the hammer size, the usual hole depth, the water level you meet and the compressor and booster currently on the rig.
- For a mill or yard: the list of air users, the pressure and the hours.
- For rental: the duty, pressure, flow, period, and whether the site has three-phase power.

Short explainers on this topic
Slide-by-slide engineering explainers from Reddy Compressors. More in the video library.
Do I need a booster for deep bores in Nalgonda?
Often, yes. Once the water column at depth takes a large share of the compressor’s pressure, a booster is the right answer rather than a larger compressor of the same class. Send the hammer size, depth and water level and we will size the pair.
Can you work for contractors inside cement plants?
Yes, for contractor and shutdown air, commissioned against the plant’s air-quality requirement and following the plant’s permit and safety rules. We do not replace the plant’s own compressed-air arrangements.
What does a Miryalaguda rice mill need?
Usually a 15 to 37 kW screw compressor with a receiver sized for the sorters, a refrigerated dryer sized for the summer inlet, coalescing filters and working drains. Send the sorters’ air specification and we will size it.
Do you rent portable compressors for short periods in Nalgonda?
Yes. Because the district is close, shorter hires are practical, and machines can be swapped or supplemented at short notice, planned with you. Fuel is the hirer’s.
Can you service a compressor or booster of a make you did not supply?
Yes. We service and repair every major make of compressor and booster and supply parts for them. Send the nameplates.
Is a used rig compressor a sensible buy?
Often, yes, for a known duty. Inspected used rig compressors from our yard come load-tested with a test sheet, and we will say plainly whether a particular machine has the pressure margin for the district’s depths.
Can you set up a maintenance contract that includes quick follow-ups?
Yes. For Nalgonda a contract can include follow-up visits as well as the scheduled ones, with dryers, filters and drains included.
