The district from a compressed-air point of view
The port corridor asks for industrial and contractor air: port and stevedoring contractors with pneumatic tools and cleaning, the fabrication, blasting and painting yards that serve the power and steel-linked plants, the contractors who build and maintain the estates, and the plants themselves for standby and supplementary air to a written standard. The aquaculture belt, one of the densest in the country between Nellore and Kavali, asks for food-grade air in hatcheries, feed mills and processing plants, in a wet and salty environment. Quartz, feldspar and mica processing around Gudur crushes, grinds, classifies and packs mineral powders on compressed air in a dusty, abrasive atmosphere, with pulse-jet dust collection everywhere. Rice mills across the district need sorter and packing air. The interior around Atmakur and Udayagiri is drilled for borewells in hard rock, and granite is quarried on the Prakasam border. Construction for the corridor, the estates and the highway adds portable air throughout.

The Krishnapatnam corridor: Contractor and plant air
The port and the large plants along the corridor have their own engineering; our customers are the contractors around them and the plants that need standby or supplementary air. Fabrication yards need plant air for tools, blasting cabinets and paint booths and dry air for blasting and painting so that coatings pass inspection. Shutdown contractors need portable air commissioned against the plant’s requirement and the acceptance checklist. Stevedoring contractors need robust portable machines for tools and cleaning in coal and ore dust. For blasting, the figure is nozzle size and pressure at the nozzle, from the abrasive blasting air tool. The corridor’s air is salt-laden and, near the coal and ore berths, dusty, so coolers, cabinets and receivers are specified for the coast and intake filtration is a grade heavier than the manual; the notes on the Visakhapatnam page about salt air apply here.
Aquaculture: Hatcheries, feed mills and processing
Nellore’s shrimp hatcheries use compressed air or blowers for aeration and for pneumatic equipment, its feed mills run pelleting, conveying and packing lines on air, and its processing plants pack and freeze product with pneumatic machinery in cold, wet rooms. The product-contact requirement is strict, the environment is salty and wet, and power on the coast road interrupts. We specify food-grade lubricated or oil-free compressors with coalescing and sterile filtration at the points of product contact, refrigerated dryers sized for a 45 °C inlet at the coastal humidity, coated receivers, electronic drains, and a compressor room on the dry side of the building with a landward intake. For aeration duties the question is often whether a blower rather than a compressor is the right machine, and the blower and low-pressure air pages explain the difference in energy terms. The food-grade air page explains the air-quality classes.
Quartz, feldspar and mica at Gudur
Mineral processing is hard on compressed air. Quartz and feldspar dust is abrasive and silica-bearing; mica dust is fine and plate-like and gets into everything. The crushers, grinders, classifiers and packing lines run on air, and the pulse-jet dust collectors that keep the plant breathable fire in bursts that an undersized receiver cannot carry. We approach a mineral plant in a fixed order: the compressor room is outside the processing building with its intake on the clean side and filtration a grade heavier than the manual; the electrical cabinet is sealed and filtered; the receiver is sized for the dust collectors’ pulses with a dedicated header; the dryer is sized for the coastal humidity; and the cooler is cleaned on an inspection calendar. The receiver sizing tool gives the storage figure. For the quarries that feed the plants, blast-hole drilling at 7 to 25 bar g with the DTH drilling guide arithmetic applies.
Rice, lime and the interior
Rice mills across the district run colour sorters that need stable, dry, clean air; the notes on the Nizamabad page apply. Lime and shell-grit processing on the coast is dusty and alkaline. The interior around Atmakur and Udayagiri is drilled for irrigation bores in hard rock, with the same pressure-margin and dust questions as the rest of the Deccan, and we service rig compressors of every make and supply the spares rigs consume.
Key facts for a Nellore site
- Distance: about 450 km from Tarnaka to Nellore; Krishnapatnam and Gudur are farther; Kavali nearer. A rental delivery is a day each way; service visits are planned trips grouped with other Nellore and coastal work.
- Climate: hot and humid; summer highs around 40 °C with high humidity, a north-east monsoon that is heavier here than on the northern coast, and a cyclone season from October to December. Humidity and salt are the design conditions on the coast; heat and dust in the interior.
- Atmosphere: salt and coal or ore dust at the port, silica and mica dust at Gudur, wet and cold at aquaculture plants, husk dust at mills, red-soil dust at rig sites.
- Power: the corridor’s supply is good; coast-road and rural feeders interrupt.
- What we do here: sales of new machines through our supply tie-ups, inspected used and refurbished machines from our Secunderabad yard, rental from our own fleet by the month, service and repair of all makes, maintenance contracts with records, overhauls in Secunderabad, spares, dryers and filters.
Sales: New, used and refurbished
For a corridor plant or a food plant we specify for the coast and against a written air-quality standard; for a mineral plant we design the room, intake, storage and filtration as part of the supply; for a hatchery we size the aeration duty honestly between a blower and a compressor. The selection guide explains the method. We have supply tie-ups with all major makes, we are not the authorised dealer of any, and we recommend from the job. For a workshop, a mill or a contractor, an inspected used or refurbished machine from our yard, load-tested with a six-month warranty and its test sheet, with a new dryer and the cooler and cabinet checked for the coast, is often the right value; the used compressors page sets out what is inspected.
Rental in Nellore
Rental is by the month. Our fleet supplies portable diesel compressors for blasting, painting, construction, quarry and shutdown work, with aftercoolers, separators and dryers specified against the coating or process requirement, and skid-mounted electric screw compressors, with dryers and filtration, as standby or supplementary air for plants, mills, feed mills and processors. Machines arrive with hoses and a commissioning check, and fuel for a diesel machine is the hirer’s. The own-or-hire calculator lets a contractor run the decision with their own figures.
Service, repair and maintenance contracts
| Situation | What we need first | What then happens |
|---|---|---|
| Mineral plant: dust collectors cleaning poorly, filters blocking | Compressor and dryer nameplates, receiver size, collector details, photographs of the intake and room | Telephone diagnosis; usually storage, intake or filtration, with a visit to fit and test |
| Aquaculture plant: wet or oily air, corrosion | Compressor, dryer and filter nameplates, room location, drain condition | Dryer, filtration, drains and room checked with the compressor; coastal-specification replacements where corrosion is found |
| Compressor tripping or losing pressure | Nameplate, controller display or fault code, photographs of the cooler and cabinet | Telephone diagnosis, then a visit with the parts the symptom points to |
| Overhaul or airend exchange | Hours, noise and vibration history, oil analysis if available | The airend goes to our Secunderabad workshop; a rental machine covers the plant |
| Maintenance contract | Machine list with nameplates, hours, criticality, season dates | A visit calendar from hours, grouped with other Nellore work; consumables carried; dryers, drains, coolers and cabinets inspected; records kept |
At this distance a maintenance contract is the normal arrangement for a plant; the AMC page explains the structure.
Spare parts to Nellore
Intake and cabinet filters, separator elements, oil (including food-grade), belts, inlet and minimum-pressure valves, thermostatic elements, dryer filters, pulse-valve diaphragms, drain valves, cooler cores in coastal specification and controller sensors are what the district consumes, and silica dust and salt shorten every interval. Parts travel ahead by road or courier, or with the service engineer for planned work. We identify a part from the nameplate and a photograph of the component, not from the canopy name; the spare parts page explains what to photograph.
A worked example: A quartz grinding plant near Gudur
A plant grinding quartz to powder runs two grinding lines with pulse-jet dust collectors, a classifier, pneumatic conveying and a packing line from a 37 kW screw compressor with a 750-litre receiver and a small dryer, and complains that filters block every few weeks and that the dust collectors clean poorly on the second line. From the equipment list the average demand is about 5.5 m³/min with pulse peaks near 9 m³/min when both collectors clean together. The compressor is adequate on average but the receiver cannot carry the pulses, the intake draws silica dust from the plant floor, and the dryer is undersized for the humidity. The answer keeps the compressor, adds a 3,000-litre receiver with a dedicated header to the collectors and staggers their cleaning cycles, moves the compressor to a room outside the building with a landward intake and heavier filtration and a cabinet filter, replaces the dryer with one sized for a 45 °C inlet at the full flow, fits timed drains, and puts the plant under a maintenance contract with the cooler cleaned at each visit. The filters stop blocking because the intake is clean; the collectors clean properly because the storage carries the pulses.
Common mistakes at Nellore sites
- Drawing a mineral plant’s compressor intake from the dusty plant floor.
- Expecting a small receiver to carry pulse-jet dust-collector bursts.
- Installing an inland-specification compressor on the corridor or the coast and losing the cooler and cabinet to salt.
- Putting an aquaculture plant’s compressor on the wet processing floor.
- Using a compressor for a large aeration duty that a blower would do at a fraction of the energy.
- Ordering a part by the canopy name rather than the number on the component.
How Reddy Compressors helps
Nellore is one of the farther districts we serve, and its mix of port, aquaculture and mineral work is unlike anywhere else on the coast. We are an independent, multi-brand business with supply tie-ups across all major makes, our own rental fleet, our own yard of inspected used machines, a workshop for airend and engine work, and more than 20 service engineers and technicians, all working from Tarnaka in Secunderabad.
What to send us
- A photograph of the compressor, dryer and filter nameplates and, for a fault, the controller display and the cooler.
- Where the site is: the corridor plant, the port area, the hatchery or processing plant, the mineral unit, the mill or the landmark.
- For a plant: the air-quality specification and the list of air users with hours.
- For a mineral unit: the equipment list, the dust collectors’ details and the receiver size.
- For rental: the duty, pressure, flow, air quality, period, and whether the site has three-phase power.

Short explainers on this topic
Slide-by-slide engineering explainers from Reddy Compressors. More in the video library.
Can you supply compressed air for contractors on the Krishnapatnam corridor?
Yes, portable and skid-mounted sets with dryers and filtration specified against the coating or plant requirement, coastal-specification machines, commissioned on site and hired by the month.
Do you supply food-grade air for hatcheries, feed mills and seafood plants?
Yes. Food-grade lubricated or oil-free compressors with coalescing and sterile filtration, dryers sized for the coast, coated receivers and electronic drains, with an oil and dew-point test recorded at commissioning.
Should a hatchery use a compressor or a blower for aeration?
For large, low-pressure aeration a blower is usually far more economical; for pneumatic equipment a compressor is needed. Send the duty and we will say which, honestly.
Why do my mineral plant’s filters block so fast?
Usually because the intake draws silica or mica dust from the plant floor. A room outside the building, a clean-side intake and heavier filtration are the answer, not a different compressor.
Can you service a compressor of a make you did not supply?
Yes. We service and repair every major make of compressor and dryer and supply parts for them. Send the nameplates.
Do you rent compressors for blasting and painting at fabrication yards?
Yes, with aftercoolers, separators and dryers specified against the coating requirement, delivered by road, commissioned on site and hired by the month. Fuel is the hirer’s.
Is a used compressor sensible for a Nellore rice mill or workshop?
Often, yes, with a new dryer and the cooler and cabinet checked for the coast. Inspected, load-tested refurbished machines from our yard come with a six-month warranty and a test sheet.
